New Free Pattern and How-to Video – Garden Petals Table Runner!

Welcome! Today’s Creative Adventure is my new FREE quilting pattern and companion YouTube how-to video called “Garden Petals Table Runner.” This table runner is fast, easy, beginner friendly and precut friendly too.

You can download my free pattern here on my website by going to the Patterns menu at the top of the Home page. Then click on the download button link to download the free pattern to your device. (It is not available as a paper pattern.) Plus, I’ve included FREE fabric alpha labels that you can reuse on future projects!

Watch my YouTube how-to video below or go to my YouTube Channel at DKohn Designs to watch it there. The video shows you step by step how to sew this quick, simple and customizable table runner pattern called “Garden Petals Table Runner.” You can start with 5 inch precut squares to make it super-quick or use your yardage stash.

In this video, I’ll give you tips on:

  • measuring and cutting your fabric and pre-cuts:
  • sewing an accurate seam:
  • “snowballing” corners:
  • pressing seams:
  • squaring your fabric pieces and blocks:
  • adding borders:

For my version of this table runner, I chose some leftover charm squares from another project for the focal flower blocks and the scrappy binding. I chose coordinating leftover yardage from my stash for the borders and backing. Then, some batting scraps and I was all set! Simple, inexpensive, fast and cute! I love how it turned out! I think you will too!

You could easily add blocks to make the runner longer to suit your table or add a second border if you prefer a wider table runner. This pattern would work for seasonal decorations as well as general home decor, depending on the fabric you choose.

I didn’t include detailed directions for basting, backing, quilting or binding your table runner. There are many excellent videos on YouTube that show these processes well. YouTube channels I recommend are: Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company, Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics, Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts, and Kimberly Jolly of Fat Quarter Shop all have videos that cover these aspects of quilting in detail. I have learned much of what I know in quilting from these wonderful ladies. Here are links to their YouTube Channels:
